01 Fell sick mid-trip in Turkey?

Turkey's major private hospitals are well-equipped and English-speaking, but foreigners pay upfront for all treatment. A sudden fever, stomach illness, or infection means a clinic visit you settle yourself without cover. Medipro can help you work out whether your symptoms need a doctor, and LUMA covers the medical costs so getting better stays the only thing on your mind.

  • Two people walking along a paved road through the Cappadocia valley, surrounded by unique rock formations and cave structures.
A palm-lined waterfront promenade with people walking, hills and buildings visible in the background under a partly cloudy sky.
Numerous hot air balloons rising above the rocky, cone-shaped rock formations of Cappadocia, Turkey.

02 Stomach trouble from food or water?

Tap water across Turkey isn't reliably safe to drink, and a change in diet, street food, or market produce in the summer heat can unsettle even a well-travelled stomach. If rest and fluids aren't enough, getting checked is worth it. LUMA covers the treatment costs, and Medipro can point you to the right kind of facility wherever you are in the country.

  • An aerial view of a crowded outdoor market or square in Istanbul, with the Galata Tower and city skyline in the background.
A vintage red tram moving down a busy pedestrian shopping street lined with historic buildings, with crowds of people walking alongside.
The white Ortaköy Mosque with twin minarets sitting on the shore of the Bosphorus in Istanbul, with a Turkish flag flying above.

03 Road accident on a Turkish highway?

Turkey's roads range from modern highways to chaotic city traffic and narrow mountain routes, and driving styles can be unpredictable. A collision can mean emergency care you pay for upfront as a foreign visitor. LUMA covers the medical costs from a road accident and gets you to a better hospital if the nearest one isn't equipped to treat you.

  • A pedestrian street lined with restaurants and outdoor seating, with people walking past shops and buildings.
Shoppers walking through the arched, ornately painted corridor of the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, with a Turkish flag hanging overhead.
Hagia Sophia's domes and minarets silhouetted against a warm sunset sky, framed by trees in the foreground.

04 Phone or bag gone missing?

Crowded bazaars, tourist sites, and public transport can be common spots for petty theft, especially during busy periods. Losing a phone or wallet mid-trip can disrupt more than the day, particularly when you still have plans ahead. LUMA can help cover the costs so you can replace what you need and get back on track.

  • Ancient cave dwellings carved into a rocky cliff face, with a staircase leading up to the openings, in Cappadocia, Turkey.
People standing atop an old stone fortress wall overlooking the sea, with mountains visible across the water under a partly cloudy sky.
A dusk view of Istanbul's skyline with illuminated domes and minarets reflected in the calm waters of the Bosphorus.

05 Had to call off your Turkey trip?

Flights and hotels can add up quickly when they are booked well in advance. If illness, injury, or a family emergency forces you to cancel, LUMA can help cover those prepaid costs and make an unexpected change of plans easier to manage.

Your Turkey Travel Insurance Questions, Answered

A domed mosque with tall, slender minarets on the Istanbul waterfront, seen across the water with the city skyline and boats along the shore.

Yes, for the vast majority of the country. Turkey holds a Level 2 advisory from the US State Department, which means exercise increased caution rather than avoid travel. Istanbul, Cappadocia, Antalya, and the main tourist routes are generally safe and welcoming. The area to genuinely avoid is within 10 kilometres of the Syrian and Iraqi borders due to armed conflict, and claims arising from those areas fall outside travel insurance cover as a standard industry exclusion. Check your home government's current travel advice before booking and stay informed during your trip.

Yes. Turkey's major private hospitals are well-equipped and English-speaking, but foreigners pay upfront for all treatment since there's no reciprocal healthcare arrangement for visitors. Emergency stabilisation at public hospitals is generally free, but follow-up care, specialist treatment, and anything at a private facility requires payment. LUMA covers medical expenses under your plan, and Medipro can help you decide whether your symptoms need a doctor and where to go.

Usually yes, especially at private hospitals where payment is required before or at the time of treatment. Public hospitals handle life-threatening emergencies first, but any follow-up or non-emergency care comes with a bill. LUMA covers the medical costs under your plan, and where a direct billing agreement exists with the facility, they bill LUMA directly so you're not covering the full amount yourself at the time.

It depends on your nationality. Turkey runs its own e-Visa system and most nationalities, including the US, UK, and many EU countries, can apply online before arrival for a short tourist stay. Indian passport holders can also apply for a Turkish e-Visa online. Your passport should be valid for at least six months from your date of entry. Check the current requirements and apply through Turkey's official e-Visa portal before booking, as fees and eligibility can change.

Yes. Turkey sits in an active seismic zone, and earthquakes can happen with little or no warning, particularly in the west and south of the country. Severe weather, including winter snowstorms, can also affect flights and road access in central and eastern regions. If a covered flight delay meets your policy threshold, LUMA's flight delay cover helps with reasonable expenses like meals or an overnight stay.

No. Hot air balloon rides are excluded from LUMA travel insurance. If you are injured while boarding or during the flight, that claim would not be covered. Your policy still covers unrelated medical emergencies during the rest of your trip. If you plan to take a balloon ride, book with a licensed operator and check what passenger insurance they provide for the activity.

No. Hair transplants and other planned procedures are not covered, and complications arising from treatment arranged in advance are excluded as well.
