02 Serious injury during a Serasa Beach day?

A coastal day can turn difficult if an injury needs more than basic first aid. Local care may handle minor cuts or stings, but a serious case can require transfer to a better-equipped hospital in Brunei or, if medically necessary, to Singapore or Malaysia. When that level of care is needed, LUMA helps arrange the medical evacuation to a hospital that can treat you properly

03 Slip or injury during a Kampong Ayer river taxi ride?

Moving between the water village and the city often means stepping in and out of small boats throughout the day. Wet decks and choppy water can easily lead to a twisted ankle or a fall. LUMA helps you get the right treatment and covers eligible medical expenses,so a small accident doesn't eat into the rest of the trip.

04 Food poisoning or dehydration after Gadong Night Market?

Food hygiene across busy night market stalls can be unpredictable, and Brunei's humidity makes dehydration hit faster than it would at home. A bad reaction can leave you needing fluids and sideline you for the better part of a day. LUMA settles the cost of treatment, so a rough night doesn't follow you onto your card.

05 Trip cancelled before you fly to Brunei?

Brunei trips often include prepaid hotels, rainforest tours, river safaris, and onward flights that are booked before you leave. If a serious illness, injury, family emergency, or another covered reason stops you from travelling, those costs can be hard to recover on your own. LUMA plans with trip cancellation cover can help with eligible prepaid expenses, subject to your policy terms.

Your Brunei Travel Insurance Questions, Answered

Aerial drone view of mangrove forest with tidal channels and mudflats in Southeast Asia

Yes. Brunei is one of the easier countries to travel around in Southeast Asia and is generally very safe for solo travelers. Whether you're exploring Bandar Seri Begawan, or wandering through Kampong Ayer, most trips go smoothly. Challenges tend to come once you get out into nature. A slip on a wet rainforest trail, or an injury during a river trip can be harder to deal with when you're far from larger medical facilities. Having Brunei travel insurance means you have support in place if plans suddenly take an unexpected turn.

Yes. The warm, humid climate means mosquito-borne illness is worth taking seriously, especially near gardens, rivers, forest edges, and anywhere water pools after rain. Dengue is the main one to know. It can start with fever, headache, body aches, nausea, or unusual tiredness. Japanese encephalitis is far less likely on a short trip but still exists across tropical Asia. If symptoms show up, Medipro can help you judge whether you need to see someone, and your LUMA policy covers the treatment costs if you do.

Yes, for eligible personal incidents under your applicable plan. Falls on jungle trails and injuries during outdoor excursions in Ulu Temburong are covered under eligible medical costs. Medipro, our in-house medical team, gives you the guidance you need to make the right call if something goes wrong on the trail.

Yes, when it's medically necessary. Most issues can be treated within Brunei, but a serious case may need specialist care at a larger regional hospital. If local facilities can't provide the treatment you need, LUMA helps arrange evacuation to a better-equipped hospital, including Singapore or Malaysia where that's the right call. This matters because medical evacuation can be expensive and difficult to coordinate without support.

It depends on your nationality. As of May 2026, US passport holders can enter Brunei visa-free for stays of up to 90 days, according to the Immigration and National Registration Department of Brunei. Indian passport holders require a visa and should confirm the current process before departure. Passports must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry. Check current requirements for your nationality through the same department before travel.

Brunei has strict import rules, and some medicines that are routine elsewhere are controlled or restricted here. Carry prescription drugs in their original packaging with a copy of the prescription, and check anything you're unsure about with Brunei's authorities before you fly. If a medication is held at the border or you run out and need a local equivalent, Medipro can advise on options. If you need to see a doctor during your trip, your LUMA policy covers eligible medical costs under your plan.
