FAQ - Travel Insurance Schengen

Yes — if your nationality requires a visa to enter the Schengen Area, you must provide proof of valid travel insurance as part of your application. The policy must meet specific criteria, including a minimum of €30,000 in medical coverage for emergency treatment, hospitalization, and medical repatriation.

To meet Schengen visa requirements, your travel insurance must include:

  • Emergency medical treatment and hospitalization for at least €30,000
  • Medical evacuation or repatriation to your home country
  • Coverage for the entire stay within the Schengen area, from trip start to trip end date
  • Coverage for all Schengen countries

These requirements are set by the European Union to ensure you’re protected and not a financial burden to local healthcare systems during your trip.

Yes, if you apply for a Schengen visa, your travel insurance needs to cover all Schengen countries. Even if you only plan to visit one country, your policy must be valid across the entire Schengen Area, which currently consists of 27 member countries. This ensures you are covered if your travel itinerary changes or if you transit through another Schengen country.
Your insurance must cover the entire duration of your intended stay in the Schengen Area. We recommend adding a few extra days to account for possible delays or changes in travel plans (including any delays due to your Schengen visa processing time).
Up to 180 consecutive days per policy. For longer stays, explore our health insurance options.

No — once issued, the travel insurance policy cannot be extended.
If you wish to stay longer, you must purchase a new policy. To activate the new coverage, you would need to exit the Schengen Area and re-enter, as it’s not possible to issue a policy from within the Schengen Zone to cover an extended stay there.

No, coverage must start before your trip begins. It has to be purchased before departure for full protection.

No. You must buy your travel insurance before applying for a Schengen visa, as the insurance certificate is a required document during the application process.
You cannot buy this travel insurance after receiving your visa or after arriving in Europe.

Yes — if your Schengen visa is officially refused, you can request a refund by submitting the visa rejection letter to our team, provided the policy has not started.

Yes. If your policy hasn’t started yet and no claims have been made, you’re eligible for a full refund. Once the policy has begun, however, refunds are no longer possible.

For most treatments, you’ll need to pay upfront and submit your claim for reimbursement.

For larger bills over USD 1,000, we can arrange assistance and direct billing with the hospital whenever possible, subject to prior review and approval.

Please refer to the confirmation email you received after purchasing your policy. It includes detailed instructions on how and where to submit your claim, along with the required claims form and a list of supporting documents you’ll need to provide.

If you’re a citizen of a visa-exempt country (eg the US, Canada, Singapore, etc), you don’t need insurance to enter. However, Schengen countries strongly recommend having coverage due to high healthcare costs in Europe.
