Mongolia calling? We go above and beyond to make sure your trip stays golden.
  • A long line of tourists riding camels across golden Gobi Desert sand dunes under a clear blue sky
A lone hiker walking along the sharp ridgeline of a towering golden sand dune with misty desert valleys below
Two Mongolian wrestlers in traditional costume competing at an outdoor Naadam festival, with the Mongolian flag and vast steppe landscape in the background.

01 Your Naadam or Gobi trip’s booked, and you can't travel?

A Mongolia trip takes months of planning, and the bill stacks up fast. Multi-day expeditions and organised festival packages often come with hefty non-refundable deposits paid well in advance. If illness keeps you from travelling, your LUMA plan can cover the costs you've already incurred. Given how much goes in up front, trip cancellation cover is worth building into your plan. Compare our plans online to see which ones include it.

  • Dramatic red sandstone rock formations at golden hour in the Gobi Desert, Mongolia, with green steppe hills in the background
Wild Bactrian camel standing in the Gobi Desert, Mongolia, with arid scrubland, bare trees, and rocky mountains under a deep blue sky
Eroded red sandstone badlands in the Gobi Desert, Mongolia, with vast green steppe plains and a dirt road stretching to the horizon

02 Delayed flight to Khovsgol or bag missing at Bayan-Ölgii?

Mongolia's domestic flight network is small, and delays or baggage issues at remote airports can affect your onward travel. For protection against these disruptions, opt for a plan with travel delay and baggage cover built in. Get a quote online to compare your options.

  • Motorcyclist riding alone on a straight empty road through the Mongolian steppe toward snow-capped Altai mountains under a wide blue sky
Vintage Soviet-era motorcycle parked on sandy desert ground in front of a ruined stone and wood structure in the Gobi Desert, Mongolia
Adventure motorcyclist in full gear riding on a remote desert highway in western Mongolia with dramatic dark mountains and cloudy sky in the background

03 Motorbike accident in the Altai or a horse fall on the steppe?

Adventure activities here often take you far from help. Accidents happen in places where a clinic can be hours away. LUMA's plans cover motorbike accidents, so a broken leg or torn ligament doesn't become a financial event on top of the physical one.

  • Group of Mongolian women in vibrant red traditional deel costumes riding white horses across the green steppe at Naadam Festival, Mongolia
Mongolian horsemen in traditional and everyday dress gathered on horseback at the start of a horse race during Naadam Festival, Mongolia
Mongolian woman in traditional orange deel costume performing horseback archery at full gallop during Naadam Festival, Mongolia

04 Stomach upset at Naadam or dehydration in the Gobi?

A bad stomach is one of the most common things to interrupt a Mongolia trip. Unfamiliar food, untreated water, or summer heat can each play a part. Medipro, our in-house medical advisory team, can help you decide whether to manage symptoms or seek care. If you do need to see someone, your LUMA policy covers your medical costs.

  • Aerial view of Ulaanbaatar city skyline in winter with snow-dusted rooftops, colorful apartment blocks, and a glass commercial building with Samsung signage, Mongolia
The Blue Sky Tower, a landmark curved glass skyscraper in downtown Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, with the modern city skyline and construction cranes in the background
Ulaanbaatar cityscape at golden hour in winter with snow-covered Bogd Khan Mountain, residential buildings, and a modern high-rise in the foreground, Mongolia

05 Provincial clinic in Mongolia not equipped to treat you?

Medical infrastructure outside Ulaanbaatar is limited, and some situations call for a hospital with the right capabilities. When local care isn’t equipped to treat you, LUMA arranges transfer to a better-equipped facility, working with global assistance partners such as Europ Assistance where needed. Sometimes that means transport to a hospital in a neighbouring country. All LUMA Travel insurance plans include full medical evacuation cover.

Your Mongolia Travel Insurance Questions, Answered

Woman in elaborate Mongolian queen's costume with a tall red headdress and pearl jewelry on a carved throne

Yes. Mongolia is rated Level 1 ("Exercise Normal Precautions") by the U.S. Department of State as of May 2026, and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) does not warn against travel to the country. Violent crime against tourists is rare. The real risks are practical ones: extreme weather, vast distances, and limited medical access outside Ulaanbaatar.

Go places, we’ve got you covered.
